I firmly believe that Smiths Point will be a good thing - for local people, for people visiting the South West, for the local economy and for the environment.

 

It is a privilege to be involved in this unique site.  I am looking forward to the realisation of a world class tourism project in the South West.

 

 

The Smiths Beach developers have undertaken many years of research on the environmental characteristics of the site and have designed their development in the most environmentally sensitive way possible for such a tourist/residential precinct on the coast. 

 

 

I believe Smiths Point is a development that’s needed in the area. When you consider the future of the South West over the next 20 or 50 years you’d be mad to think something isn’t going to happen, so a controlled development is a great thing.

 

 

As one of Australia's leading urban designers, I believe the Smiths Point project will be an outstanding example of current best practice - a development that is sensitively attuned to the environment in which it will sit. I can't think of a project anywhere in Australia that has been subjected to such a rigorous assessment of how it will appear in the landscape.

 

 

The Smiths Point project has been designed to meet every conceivable development criteria and to better contemporary standards for the environment and landscape protection. The project team and landowners have resisted pressure to do something ordinary, because that would simply be a waste given the superb setting that Smiths Beach provides for a confined coastal settlement that can mean so much to both the local and international community.

 

 

This plan has set a new benchmark in development integration within a landscape. Having worked on projects that affect highly valued landscapes in different parts of the world, I can say that Smiths Point will be used as a fine example of an appropriate planning response to a spectacular setting.
